Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Los Angeles Steamship Company, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A "bare URL and missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 13:25, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article List of blast furnaces has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Considering that blast furnaces have existed for centuries all across the world, this seems like a completely random choice with no clear inclusion criteria for these individually not notable furnaces. Was there anything special about e.g. the 1905-1907 period in the US that it deserves a separate section?

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

List of blast furnaces

[edit]

I would probably just ask to have the current list copied to a page in your user space (or draft space, but in user space you don't have to worry about deadlines) and work there on figuring out how to split it up.

To give some cynical advice, a lot of this is really a question of aesthetics. The Wikipedia community is much less tolerant of articles that are visibly under construction in article space than was the case in the early years. When people see fragmentary jottings like the "Data" section of the current article, they tend to reflexively conclude that this is original research, non-notable etc., and start rationalizing ways to delete it which they are reluctant to abandon.

Looking at the general sort of articles you've been developing, where it looks like you're stitching together material from a lot of individual references in trade publications and so forth, I recommend building it up to a useable length as a user space or draft page, and then organize it and tidy up the prose before launching into article space. Even if you know that big chunks of the corporation's history are still missing, if the material you do have is organized into more-or-less flowing prose, it's referenced, and there's a lead that summarizes what you do know, the article is a lot less likely to attract officious interference.

Do you have access to the American Iron and Steel Institute annual statistical reports? Those seem like the quickest way to build up a list of modern American blast furnaces. Unfortunately, the library near me which would in theory be an ideal place to research this has changed various policies post-COVID to make it as inconvenient as possible for groundlings like me to consult their materials, so I can't promise speedy action on my part as I will have to make something of a project of it. Choess (talk) 03:22, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

if it gets deleted i will just reintroduce it in a slightly different shape and form.
My actual worries at this point are: China and (even worise) pre-glasnost Soviet Union. I don't really have a plan for either.
United States is not really going to be a problem, even for just myself. Well at least for anything after 18XX where daily press, trade journal and technical journal coverage is very good already. Nowakki (talk) 07:03, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On Wikipedia, we don't talk to each other as if we are blast furnace workers. You have six months to ponder the difference. Please describe concisely and clearly how your edits merited a block, what you would do differently, and what constructive edits you would make, when you next request unblocking. Thanks. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 12:11, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Indiana Steel Company

[edit]

Hello Nowakki,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Indiana Steel Company for deletion, because it's a redirect that seems implausible or is an unlikely search term.

If you don't want Indiana Steel Company to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
